Volunteer
Each staff member has been carefully selected.
Our adult volunteers come from every walk of life and all have one thing in common; they care about children and teenagers. Most of our counselors have experienced a death of a family member or close friend, which has made them sensitive to the feelings of our campers. Our volunteers encourage support, respect and kindness in everything that we do at Camp.
Staff training is conducted prior to the camp to ensure a knowledgeable, cohesive camp. Camp HOPE staff trainings are done under the direction of the Camp HOPE advisory board consisting of professionals in the fields of medicine, psychology, social work and education.
In addition to our camp counselors, each camp has several volunteers who direct programs and activities throughout the weekend.

“I've decided to go back to school to get my Bachelors degree in Social Work. My hope is to be a hospice social worker or a patient navigator in a cancer center or other medical setting.
I credit some of this desire to being a part of Camp HOPE, along with my life experiences which brought me to Camp HOPE.
Everything you guys do has a huge impact on many lives.”
Brian, Burlington
"Camp HOPE was the first grief camp I went to after losing my dad in 2009. It was the first time I realized that there were other kids like me who were going through situations similar to mine.
I keep volunteering because I realize the impact I have on the campers. Who better to get help from than someone that was in their shoes?
Lilia, Milwaukee
“[Attending Camp as a camper] changed my life. I was with other kids who also lost their dad, and so, I felt normal, and like, I could have fun and talk about him and cry without feeling ashamed or awkward because none of my friends had ever experienced that.
